Dr. Ken Chan ICD.D

As a Partner at Optimus SBR, I lead our health, government, and public sector management consulting practice. With a career spanning public, private, and nonprofit sectors, I bring a unique, cross-sector perspective to leadership, strategy, and governance. I have held senior roles as an Assistant Deputy Minister in the Ontario Government, and in leadership positions at Victoria University in the University of Toronto, Brock University, Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Internationally, I’ve contributed to public policy and regulatory reform with the UK Government and the Mayor’s Office in London. My public service journey began in frontline roles as a police officer and border services officer.

As an experienced corporate director, I currently serve on the boards of the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, Alterna Savings, Alterna Bank, Open For Business, and the Pathstone Foundation. I hold the ICD.D designation and have completed executive education through CPA Canada, Rotman, Kellogg, Oxford, and Harvard. I am passionate about contributing to governance and oversight that drives meaningful public impact and organizational effectiveness.

Deeply committed to lifelong learning, I teach leadership, public policy and governance. I hold an Executive PhD in Management and an Executive Master in Management Research from ESCP Business School – Sorbonne Alliance, along with an MBA (City University of Seattle), a Master of Forensic Accounting (University of Toronto), and a BA (Simon Fraser University).
